The application of RFID technology in the library
Traditional open library management mode (bar code management + EAS anti-theft). E A S is the abbreviation of commodity electronic anti-theft system. In China, the first generation of EAS system was successfully developed in degaussing laboratory of Shanghai Jiao Tong University in 1980. Shanghai Jiaotong University in that year became the first relying on EAS system to implement open-shelf library management. EAS research results of colleges and universities continue to transform enterprises, for our library to achieve the promotion of open-ended management laid the foundation. Nowadays, RFID is becoming more and more popular. In the library industry, RFID has taken the place of the traditional open library management mode (barcode management + EAS anti-theft).
Limitations of Barcodes Referring to labels, people will naturally recall barcodes, which have played an important role for a long period of time. However, the popularization of RFID technology will greatly improve the original function of bar code.
First, the bar code relies on passive manual reading methods, and staff members need to scan the handheld reading devices one by one. The RFID reading devices use radio waves to automatically read a large amount of tag information instantly and automatically.
Second, the bar code is fragile label, because of physical and chemical reasons it is easy to fade, torn, RFID belongs to electronic products. Can be used in harsh conditions
Third, the bar code storage capacity is very small, while the RED label embedded within the storage device, a huge amount of information. Of course, the problem with barcodes is that it is always disposable and unalterable, and RFID can be written and modified at will.
At present, there are two major categories of RFID in the library at home and abroad. One is the use of high-frequency RFID. The typical working frequency of a high-frequency RFID tag is 13.56 MHz. Generally, when the tag and the reader are used for data exchange, The label must be located under reading less than 1 meter. High-frequency tags can easily be made as a card.
The other is the use of UHF RFID. UHF tags operating frequency between 860 ~ 960MHz, can be divided into line far field radiation field, tag and reader coupling between the electromagnetic coupling. Typical situation is 4 ~ 6 meters, up to 10 meters or more.
In recent years, RFID intelligent library management system consists of RFID smart tag (RFIDTAG), smart detection antenna, administrator reader, automatic borrowing platform, handheld reader and application software.
